# Creating an Assignment

### Before you begin

A few things to check before you start:

* You're logged in as a School Admin or Teacher — both use the same flow
* You're on a tablet, laptop, or PC — **the platform will not let you create assignments on a phone**
* You can get to Create Assignment from three places:
  * **Sidebar → Create Assignment**
  * **Home** quick-action cards
  * **Manage Assignments** → create button

***

### Step 1 — Choose your assignment type

When you open Create Assignment, you'll land on a screen that asks: *"What kind of learning experience do you want?"*

You'll see four cards. Here's what each one means:

<figure><img src="/files/qmgp7q97weZGABY4ArNZ" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

***

#### 🎲 Random Life Assignment

**Difficulty:** Easy — **Recommended for first-timers**

Best for getting started quickly. The platform automatically assigns students a random life from anywhere in the world, so they can compare different perspectives and build empathy.

**Click:** Start Exploring **Total steps:** 5

***

#### 📍 Specific Country

**Difficulty:** Easy

Best for geography or culture lessons. Your whole class explores one country you choose — its economy, culture, and society.

**Click:** Choose Country **Total steps:** 6

***

#### 🌍 SDG

**Difficulty:** Medium

Best for social studies or project-based learning. You link the assignment to one of the UN's 17 Sustainable Development Goals, a specific target within that goal, and a focus country.

**Click:** Pick Goal **Total steps:** 9

***

#### 📋 Assignment Library

**Difficulty:** Advanced

Best for structured curriculum planning. You pick from over 200 ready-made curriculum activities across 14 subject areas, each mapped to a country.

**Click:** View Curriculum **Total steps:** 8

***

### Type-specific setup steps

Each assignment type has its own setup steps before reaching the shared steps. Here's what those look like:

***

#### Specific Country — Step 1: Choose a country

<figure><img src="/files/NnltSDZyoMws7ytViag0" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

* Search for a country by name, or browse the interactive world map
* The platform may suggest countries not yet used at your school
* Once you've selected a country, it appears in a bar at the bottom
* Click **Continue** to move on — this button only activates once a country is selected

***

#### SDG — Steps 1 to 4

**Step 1 — Choose an SDG** You'll see a grid of all 17 SDG tiles. Select exactly one and click **Continue**.

<figure><img src="/files/AI9CaCp6U2omtZiTcNMF" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

**Step 2 — Choose a focus (target)** The platform shows a list of specific targets under your chosen goal. Select exactly one. If no targets are available yet, a message will let you know they're coming soon.

<figure><img src="/files/ZacUHKGfBS4Rj65ZdkMp" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

**Step 3 — Select a country** Countries are grouped into five columns based on how they're performing against your chosen SDG:

* Major challenges
* Significant challenges
* Challenges remain
* Goal achievement
* No data available

Pick one country and click **Continue**.

<figure><img src="/files/LWe1Mh2KsdRq7maiWqMR" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

**Step 4 — Review your SDG choices** A summary screen shows your goal, target, and country. You can edit any of them before moving on.

<figure><img src="/files/YWFRWXmtXwzEQSGgYuFU" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

***

#### Assignment Library — Steps 1 to 3

Some themes may show a *Recommended for you* label. Click **Continue to Activity** when ready.

***

**Step 2 — Choose an activity** Browse or search the available activities. You can switch between card view and list view. Click any activity to see a preview of what students will do and what they'll learn. When you've found the right one, click **Select** then **Continue**.

<figure><img src="/files/1p9eBjGWe7A5gyXGBaeJ" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

**Step 3 — Review your theme and activity** Confirm your choices. Use the Edit links if anything needs changing, then click **Continue to Assignment Basics**.

<figure><img src="/files/RFXHdp3gN6PuFGxHwchb" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

***

### Shared steps — every assignment type goes through these

Once the type-specific setup is done, all four types follow the same path.

***

#### Assignment Basics

<figure><img src="/files/bcYS3TSMxxoESKWAOv7o" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

This is where you name and schedule your assignment.

**Fill in:**

* **Assignment Name** — required, maximum 40 characters
* **Description** — required, maximum 80 characters
* **Visibility** — choose Public or Private (default is Private)

**What visibility means:**

* **Private** — only visible within your school
* **Public** — your lesson plan and resources are shared with the wider educator community. Your name appears as the author. Student data and identities are never shared either way.

**Set your schedule — two ways to do this:**

*Preset duration:* Choose a start date, then pick 1 week, 2 weeks, 1 month, or a custom length. The end date calculates automatically.

*Custom range:* Set both a start and end date manually. The end date must be the same as or after the start date.

The screen will show you a confirmation like: *"Assignment runs until \[date]"*

Click **Next: Add Participants** when done.

***

#### Add Participants

This is where you choose which students (and optionally, teachers) are joining the assignment.

**Students tab**

<figure><img src="/files/Wx0NyNK9t0oDemdFSjXU" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

You can:

* Search for students by name
* Select all or deselect all
* Tick individual students
* Use **Attach Grade** to add a whole year group at once (see below)

Each student row shows their name, email, grade, batch, and school.

***

**Attach Grade (bulk student selection)**

Instead of ticking students one by one, you can add a whole grade at once.

**Step 1:** Click **Attach Grade** on the Students tab. A grid of grade cards appears, each showing the grade name and how many students are in it. Select one or more grades.

**Step 2:** Click **View Students**. You'll see all students from your selected grades. Filter by grade if needed, select or deselect individuals, then click **Attach \[N] students** to add them to your participant list.

***

**Teachers tab**

<figure><img src="/files/zvzEwdskLzK6ByJm91M4" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

Teachers are optional. You can search and select any teachers you'd like to include as co-participants.

**Validation:** You need at least one student selected before you can move on.

If you try to continue without selecting anyone, you'll see: *"Select at least 1 student or attach a class to continue."*

Click **Next: Lesson Plan** when ready — this opens the **credit summary popup** first.

***

#### Credit summary popup

<figure><img src="/files/UuNy19QyOdC5yCGCG5y0" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

This appears automatically after you click Next: Lesson Plan, as long as at least one participant is selected.

It tells you:

* How many life credits your license currently has available
* How many this assignment will use (1 credit per student)
* How many you'll have left afterwards

**If you don't have enough credits:** The remaining balance turns amber and a warning appears suggesting you add credits from License Management. You can still proceed — this is a heads-up, not a block.

Close it by clicking **Next: Lesson Plan**, **Go back**, or clicking outside the popup.

***

#### Lesson Plan

You have two options here:

<figure><img src="/files/KtHzBrqrvYQhOSCcNkGC" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

***

**Option A — Attach an existing lesson plan**

Search for a lesson plan created by another teacher at your school. Each result shows the plan name, who created it, and which assignment it's linked to. You can preview it in full before attaching. Once attached, the fields lock and show as read-only.

<figure><img src="/files/0sDkiUIWv7Pdfveo2OkF" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

***

**Option B — Create your own lesson plan**

Build your plan using the form below. You can also look at sample lesson plans for inspiration (two PDF examples are provided) and attach supporting files.

<figure><img src="/files/DkPgZjRWpEtQDcTilokO" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

**File limits:**

* Documents (PDF, Word): max 1 MB each
* Images: max 2 MB each
* Multiple files allowed

**Lesson plan sections:**

| Section                    | Required? |
| -------------------------- | --------- |
| Lesson Plan Name           | ✅ Yes     |
| Lesson Overview            | ✅ Yes     |
| Learning Objectives        | ✅ Yes     |
| Learning Outcomes          | ✅ Yes     |
| Standards Alignment        | Optional  |
| Materials & Tools Required | Optional  |
| Pre-Activity Preparation   | Optional  |
| Activity Procedure         | ✅ Yes     |
| Student Deliverable        | ✅ Yes     |
| Assessment & Evaluation    | ✅ Yes     |
| Reflection & Discussion    | Optional  |

If any required section is missing, you'll see a reminder listing exactly which ones need filling in.

Click **Next: RealBoard Setup** when done.

***

#### RealBoard Setup *(Optional)*

RealBoard is a space where students post reflections during the assignment. It's switched on by default.

<figure><img src="/files/qp6iJVByYWDhaTB93ARu" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

**To keep it on:** Give your RealBoard a name (required), then review or edit the six default reflection sections:

1. About the country
2. Personal Reflection
3. Challenges faced by my family
4. SDG challenges
5. Empathy Values
6. Events Which Bothered Me

Each section has editable prompts. You can rename sections and adjust the prompt questions to suit your lesson.

Click **Continue with RealBoard** when ready, or **Skip RealBoard** if you'd prefer not to use it this time.

You can always edit the RealBoard after the assignment is created.

***

#### Review & Create

<figure><img src="/files/8aovJUnRiqynu2NEgquG" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

A full summary of everything you've set up. Before you create, check:

* Your type-specific details (country, SDG goal and target, or library theme and activity)
* Start date and duration
* Number of students and teachers
* Lesson plan (click **View Lesson Plan** to preview)
* Whether RealBoard is on or off

Use the **Edit** button next to any section to go back and make changes.

When everything looks right, click **Create Assignment**.

The button will show *"Creating…"* while it saves. Once done, a success message appears: *"Your assignment is ready. You can manage it from the Assignments screen."*

Click **Go to Assignments** to see it in your list.
